The summer months have been and are continuing to be incredibly hectic. It’s amazing that it’s already July and there’s still so much coming up on the agenda. Does anyone else feel like this? How can we get it all done?

Personally, I’ve found it hard to stay on top of everything and cleaning my home is on top of the list. How can I get it all done as efficiently, affordably and cleanly as possible? While at Dollar General, I came across a couple products that have helped to save my time and pocketbook and created a list to help us all out along the way.

***The key is to create time and a stick to it. Give yourself 30 minutes to clean each room and dedicate all 30 minutes. It’s incredible what you can accomplish. Let’s get it out of the way so we can spend more time doing things with the ones we love.

Bathroom Cleaning Kit:
Gloves
Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner
Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel
Glass Cleaner
Bucket
Toilet Bowl Brush
Broom & Dust Pan
Terry-Cloth
Brush or old Toothbrush

  1. Create a spot where your cleaning products are easily found.
Remember the list above. It’s super easy to keep all of these items together. My bathroom is my least favorite spot to clean (maybe yours too). I’ve found that if I separate my cleaning products and make them easily available, it’s provides more motivation to get it done.

Dollar General is a great place to save on cleaning products. For instance, I keep the Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner and Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel as part of my bathroom cleaning kit. The Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner has a wide-spray, will work upside down (let’s chat about those tough corners) and no matter the mess, Scrubbing Bubbles® takes cleaning beyond 99.9% for 100% problem solved (with a smell that lets you know it’s that clean). And if you are like me and the toilet is the biggest pain point, the Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel have saved me.

  1. Cleaning the shower & sink.

Spray the shower (counter tops, sink, and toilet) generously with the Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner. Fill the tube with an inch or two of hot water and let the bathroom steam for 5 minutes. This will help to loosen any dirt and mildew within the area. Working from top to bottom, scrub with brush and wipe down. Rinse with water and wipe down with the terry-cloth.

  1. Close the shower curtain.

Never leave the shower curtain open as it will hold water and create mildew stains on the bottom. Once complete, always close it completely to provide a chance to air dry.

  1. The toilet.

Using the Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner, spray down the toilet (I use this on the inside and out). Allow to sit for a couple minutes and wipe down the outside and clean the inside with the toilet brush. When complete, use the Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel for continuous cleaning. The gels provide touch free, continuous clean and zero residue and lasts up to seven days.

  1. Glass & Mirrors.

Spray with a glass cleaner and wipe dry.

  1. Floors.

Shake out the rugs and make sure they are washed often. Don’t forget to sweep the corners.

  1. Treat yourself.
Pour yourself a cool one & think about what you’ll do this weekend with your time and money saved!

“The Shire” – Vermont

I grew up in the tiny, tiny Northern Vermont town of Berkshire, VT. When I say tiny, I mean I’m pretty sure there’s more cows than people, even now. I thought, what better way to introduce Vermont than to first introduce the town where I was raised! Here’s a glimpse into my childhood. The more things change, the more they seem to stay the same.

View from our Field

View from my parents land.

A few facts:

  • 2000 Census Population: 1,300 people
  • One store / gas station.
  • Elementary school is Kindergarten thru 8th grade.

Berkshire Elementary School

  • High school? We can pick which high school we would like to attend from one of the neighboring towns.
  • Two restaurants (one is only open in the summer, the other just opened up), one bar.

The Pine Cone Snack Bar

  • MANY, many family owned dairy farms.

136

  • It’s a place where “Everyone knows your name”.
  • Canada is in our backyard. Literally.
  • ‘West Berkshire’, ‘Berkshire Center’ and ‘East Berkshire’ constitute as ‘The Town of Berkshire’.
  • Closest grocery store – about 15 minutes away.
  • Traffic? It’s either a car going slower than 50 on the main road or a tractor, probably a tractor.
  • Not one stop light in town. Not one.

A few more important buildings (considering we have them)…

The Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church in East Berkshire.

East Berkshire Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church

We have a fire department, volunteer only.  My dad was a volunteer fire fighter when I was growing up. The big fires were the barn fires from wet hay.

This is the Berkshire Town Hall. I will say this is “new” to me. This building has obviously always sat here but it was recently renovated and it looks pretty nice. The previous town clerks office was about the size of my bedroom… ok probably a little bigger than my bedroom but not that much. This is nice, I’d be interested to go inside.

Berkshire Town HallFinally, coming into East Berkshire from Berkshire Center…. we love those Green Mountains in the background. It makes a sight for sore eyes. I can never get sick of looking at those peaks. The point part of the mountains in the background is Jay Peak (ski resort).

View coming into East Berkshire, VTHere’s a little glimpse into my homeland. This town holds a really special place in my heart. If you have any questions about the town or what it was like to grow up here, I’d love to hear them!

Vermont 2013 – Get Ready

Flying into Burlington International Airport. 08/24/2013

One of my absolute favorite views is flying into Burlington International Airport in Vermont. Breathtaking views, beautiful Green Mountains but most of all it means that I’m home!

Get ready for great posts about my home state of Vermont. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to grow up and attend college and I’m wicked excited to be sharing it with you! So although my posts will be scarce this week, get ready for a ton of fun in the near future!
